A single-herb liquid extract of dried rinds and fruits of Capsicum chinense, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

The habanero is not Chinese. Nikolaus von Jacquin described it in the eighteenth century under the impression that it came from China, and the name stuck to a species that actually originated in the Amazon basin and was domesticated in the Caribbean and the Yucatan. The fruit is lantern-shaped and characteristically wrinkled, ripening through green and orange to red. What separates it from other hot chillies is not just the heat but the smell: a strong apricot-and-citrus aroma that survives cooking and is unmistakable.

Glycerite: Capsicum chinense dried rinds and fruits, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Habanero is extremely hot. Undiluted it burns skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Do not use if you have a stomach ulcer, reflux or inflammatory bowel disease. Keep well away from children and wash your hands after handling.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
