A single-herb liquid extract of dried rhizome of Paris polyphylla, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Qi ye yi zhi hua means seven leaves and one flower, and the plant is built exactly like that: a single unbranched stem, one whorl of leaves near the top, and one flower held above them on a bare stalk. The flower is strange rather than pretty — the petals are reduced to narrow green threads that hang down like grass. It grows slowly, taking many years to make a rhizome worth lifting, and wild digging has emptied large areas of the Himalaya and southwest China.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Paris polyphylla contains steroidal saponins that irritate the gut and, in quantity, are toxic. Do not exceed the suggested amount. Not for use in pregnancy. Best used under the guidance of a practitioner trained in Chinese herbal medicine.
