A single-herb liquid extract of dried peel of Citrus reticulata, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Chen pi means aged peel, and the aging is the whole point. It is mandarin peel that has been dried and then deliberately stored, turned and re-dried for years — classically the peel of the Xinhui mandarin from Guangdong. As it ages the colour darkens from orange to nearly black, the harsh volatile top notes fade, and what is left is deeper and sweeter. It is the one Chinese herb where age raises the price steeply: peel from the 1970s changes hands at prices that have nothing to do with what mandarins cost, and old Xinhui households keep jars of it the way other families keep wine.

Ingredients

Tincture: Citrus reticulata dried peel, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Citrus reticulata dried peel, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.
