A single-herb liquid extract of dried plant material of Theobroma cacao, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Cacao is an understorey tree of the Amazon basin that grows in the shade of taller trees and behaves oddly in two ways. Its flowers come straight out of the bark of the trunk and the oldest branches rather than the twigs, and they are tiny, complicated, and pollinated by midges barely a millimetre long. The pods that follow are ridged and the size of a rugby ball, holding thirty to fifty seeds packed in sweet white pulp. Raw beans are simply the fermented and dried seed without the roast that turns cacao into chocolate; they are bitter, astringent and considerably more aromatic than a roasted bean.

Ingredients

Tincture: Theobroma cacao, organic sugar-cane alcohol, distilled water, vegetable glycerin USP.
Glycerite: Theobroma cacao, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Cacao contains theobromine and caffeine. Do not use late in the day, and keep it away from dogs and cats, to which theobromine is seriously toxic. Not recommended alongside MAO inhibitors.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
